Upselling is a digital marketing strategy for selling a more expensive version of a product or service that your customer either already has (or is planning on buying), or offering extra perks to a particular product/service. For example, if I’m buying a 27” TV and the salesperson offers me an extended warranty or a 32” TV with better HD definition, that’s an upsell.

Most Internet Marketing Gurus will tell you that a very large percentage of online sales will come from upsells.

Examples of upsells are:

  • offering extended warranty
  • upgrading to the latest iPhone version
  • offering payment plans (interest)
  • etc…

Every online business (eCommerce) is capable of having an upsell strategy.
